What does Blood Count A mean?

Anemia

In anemia there is too little hemoglobin in the blood. The blood can then bring too little oxygen to the cells of the body. Less oxygen in your body can cause symptoms, such as being tired, feeling dizzy, feeling like you might pass out or becoming short of breath quickly.

Anemia occurs most often in women because they have a heavy period. To limit this, a hormonal IUD or the pill, for example, can help. If you have anemia due to too little iron, you will be given iron pills. In men and women over the age of 50, anemia is often caused by a stomach or intestinal disease.

Anemia can cause you to suffer from:

  • feeling tired and weak
  • quickly become short of breath with exertion
  • dizziness
  • the feeling of fainting
  • palpitations
  • sweating
  • headache
  • ringing in the ears
  • paleness, less color in the face (in severe anemia)

What can you do about anemia?

If you eat healthy, you usually get enough iron, vitamin B12 and folic acid. If you lose a lot of blood during menstruation, are pregnant or vegan, it is wise to eat extra products with iron, Vitamin B12 and Vitamin B11 (folic acid).
