BLOOD COLLECTION

How does the blood
collection
work?

Preptic icoon dokter

General

A BIG-registered nurse will collect blood. This nurse is competent because she/he has completed a nursing course. In addition, the nurse has passed an exam at PREPTIC to demonstrate that she/he has mastered the techniques. A certificate has been issued for this which he/she will carry with him. You can always ask to show it. The nurse will always identify himself with a PREPTIC card.

The appointment starts with measuring some values such as blood pressure, heart rate and waist circumference. Then blood will be taken, depending on the examination, these are 3 or 4 tubes. The appointment will take a maximum of 20 minutes.

How should I prepare?

It is important that you do not eat extremely different on the day of the blood test than you normally do (for example, think of extra sugars through cake, it is wiser to eat these after the blood test). You do not need to be fasting for the blood test.

We advise you to put on comfortable clothing on the day of the test so that your elbow cavity can be easily exposed.

Can side effects occur?

There are rarely side effects from a blood sample collection. However, it is possible that you do notice something. We describe some possible complications:

– A bruise or bruising may occur at the puncture site.
– The puncture site may be sensitive.
– Very rarely, bleeding can occur, especially with people with clotting disorders or if blood-thinning medicines are used. If bleeding occurs, press off the wound well and contact PREPTIC.
